The FPV journey so far

Welcome to the FPV project page! Here I'll post my journey thus far, also giving some general insights. I've started this hobby in februari 2025, with the purchase of the radio controller, orqa pilot race goggles and a mobula6 2024.

Chapter 1; Icarus

Once everything arrived after numerous hours of youtube research and takeoff practice, I thought "Let's get started! This can't be that hard to set up". That was stupid.

Things got off to a rocky start, with me not being able to get the drone to connect with my reciever. This ended up being the downfall of this drone, since I flashed it with the wrong software which ended up bricking it. This could be remedied by soldering two pads on the pcb which put it into boot mode. My epic aliexpress solder however was so incredibly shit that once it's on, it can't really be removed. This ended up with me actually SCRATCHING it off with a knife. I admit, not my best moment. This also made a resistor(?) which at max was half a millimeter big disappear, further cementing the tomb of this pcb. I suspect some leads on the board were cut as well.

At this point I bought a new flight controller and some actual handy solder equipment. I soldered over everything quite successfully, and actually got it to connect (yay!). By this time the video receiver finally came out of backorder and I installed it on the goggles. This culminated in the magical moment where I could fly! Finally I could do what I set out to do back in the beginning of the year! For context, this was back in september. I was quite wrong, with this flight controller having the amazing characteristic of completely wiping the VTX (video transmit) settings every time it rebooted. As you might imagine with fpv, this happens constantly with the switching of batteries. Great, another pcb trashed. I was completely done with this money sink.

Chapter 2; Redemption

Still wanting to fly and having a bit of spare time this january I bought a completely new pre-built mobula 6, which luckily worked the instant I configured it. I've flown it a few times, and that's where we are now!
